One article, cited 34 times as a source in Copilot and Bing’s AI responses

Not a study, but an example observed from the outside: the page that follows our own rules received two-thirds of all the times geoa.app was cited as a source.

Between 14 July and 9 September 2026, geoa.app was cited 52 times in Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI summaries and selected partner services, spread across 8 pages. Thirty-four of these were for a single page: the Swedish version of the article ‘How do you write content that AI cites?’. The source is the AI Performance report from Bing Webmaster Tools, exported on 12 September 2026.

What this means

What you can use the figure for

This is the closest we can get to a ‘before and after’ example without inventing one: a single page written consistently in accordance with the seven techniques recommended by the article itself, assessed externally by Microsoft rather than by us. It received 34 of the site’s 52 source references. The remaining seven pages, including the features page and the pricing page, received between 2 and 5 each.

You can use this figure for one thing: to choose where to start. Not the home page, but the page that answers a specific question your customers are asking, written in the language they use to ask it. The question the AI searched for most often was in Swedish, and the Swedish version was the only version of the article in the sample.

Reservations

What the figure doesn’t reveal

We set out the reservations on this page, not in a footnote at the bottom.

  • This is a single example, not a study. There is no control group, and we cannot rule out the possibility that the website was used as a source for reasons other than its style of writing, for example because there are few Swedish texts on the subject.
  • The Danish, Norwegian and English versions of the same article are not included in the sample for this period. We do not know whether this is due to the language, the level of competition in each language, or the composition of the sample.
  • The figure covers Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI summaries and selected partner services. It says nothing about ChatGPT, Google or Perplexity.
  • The report is a sample with no clicks and no weighting: a source mentioned in passing counts the same as a primary source.
Method

How the figure was arrived at

The source is the ‘AI Performance’ report from Bing Webmaster Tools for geoa.app, exported on 12 September 2026, covering the period from 14 July to 9 September 2026. The report counts the number of times a page has been used as a source in Microsoft Copilot, in Bing’s own AI summaries and in selected partner services, which Microsoft does not name.

The figures have been copied unchanged from the export and locked with the date. We have not carried out our own measurements, and we cannot see what lies outside Microsoft’s sample. The report does not show clicks, position within the result, or what proportion of the result the page accounted for.

58 days during the period, 17 of which had at least one recorded source reference. No statistical test: a single example cannot be tested, only presented.
